Arugula salad good but small for a main course. Looking forward to going back and trying other menu items. Great coffee
This is a great restaurant! I am very pleased my customer introduced me to this a local. It's a cozy environment with all the flavors of home and more. The only thing missing is a veggie burger.
My husband and I went there for Sunday brunch and the food was delicious! We ordered the roasted tomatoe and basil egg benedict and it was among the best benedicts we have had. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice. Pricing for the brunch menu is comparable to any other brunch or breakfast menu.
Food was OK but not outstanding. There was a varied menu and an excellent selection of Ontario wines. We ordered the seafood pasta special of the day and fish & chips. Both were pickerel (local Ontario). The special was a whole grain pasta with an odd texture and unusual taste (not a bad taste). The F&C were beer battered, as in their sister shop, the Woolich Arrow but there was too much batter for pickerel. The real problem was seating. The two of us were seated in a small back room with 16 other patrons. The walls were stone and hard and sound reverberated all over. Two of the tables were small parties and far too loud for this room. My spouse and I could not hear ourselves and it ruined the entertainment value. We did mention this and they did apologize. If anyone goes there, do not get put in the small back room. I suspect they are still ironing out the kinks so the next foray may be better. Good concept, though eat locally, if possible.

This was my second time there and it was much better this time. The service was very attentive and the food was very tasty indeed. I had a rib eye steak with mashed potatoes and it was excellent, it came with a peppercorn sauce too. My friend had a flatbread/pizza with bison meat and it was also thoroughly enjoyed. There is a huge selection of Guelph beers on tap, its great to support the local breweries. I recommend and I will return - it's great to have a place like this on the south end.
Service was great, it was busy food was just I has t heprime rib, grilled not roasted, not quite the same. Dessert was devine. We will go back, i think growing pains
Was just okay. Pulled Pork sandwich was very dry. Fish and chips were good. Garlic Lemon mayo served with it was not good. Pecan chocolate tart was just average lacking in flavour and slightly overwhelmed with the chocolate.
Great decor and friendly wait staff.
Excellent food and atmosphere!
I have been twice now, and taken a number of people with me. We all had a very good experience. The food was very good - the salads with their light dressings were excellent and the portions sizes were about right for us. The staff were attentive. We like the idea that they cater to local producers, so you get some interesting cheeses and other products from local farms.
I would add more vegetarian choices, like a veggie burger.
We had a great meal. My salmon was wonderful and the salad very unique and delicious. My husband said his Club House was the best he has ever had. Our server was so friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is very pleasant and it was a wonderful dining experience. I will return every time I visit Guelph (and definitely again before I leave). There are many dishes I want to try.
Great food excellent service!! And support the local community and farmers!
Amazing flat breads and Steaks!! Great decor and atmosphere and excellent service! I will definitely return and I highly recommend it to others! Support the local farmers and community!
Wow was it busy. No parking available. The reception and servers were wonderful - they had trouble keeping up with the crowd. Food was very nice. The salads are special/different. The bison was very good - it was dinner though and they seem to have more lunch choices than mains. The salmon was excellent and the ribs looked really good (across the table). I'd like to try it when it is less crazy so I could look around. Everyone who recommended it to us had had lunch there vs. dinner. Love the location! Yeah the south end!
Not a very good experience. Came into restaurant at 745, told we would be seated in 15 minutes. 30 minutes later we have a table. 10 minutes before waitress is back taking a drink order. After ordering drinks and meals, I was told that they didn't have any more of my meal. What kind of grille runs out of ribs? Then drinks were wrong. 25 minutes for appetizers to come out, we didn't get the appetizer salad that we ordered. Mussels were bland and bruschetta was warm pita bread with diced tomatoes. Another 30 minutes goes by and we are then informed that one of my parties meals is also out and would she like to order something else. So just over an hour sitting at the table, almost an hour since we ordered and we are only now being informed that they are out of that dish? We said we were leaving and didn't want the rest of our food. I waved the manager over and we explained the situation. We were met with indifference and a cold shoulder as he walked away. Some hiccups are expected with new places, but not rudeness after a poor experience. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
really disappointing. had a reservation - called to confirm the day of and when we got there they had us in for an hour later than we had booked. waited at the bar & even had trouble getting a drink there - not enough staff. ended up cramped with 6 of us in a small booth. slow - really slow service. drinks came out 1 or 2 at a time. appetizers arrived quickly & were good but the main course was disappointing and again we didn't all get served at the same time. waitress spent a lot of time chatting but really didn't pay attention to us when we needed her. great ideas but wow - need to work on service if you want to keep bringing in customers. i'm not rushing back.
The restaurant was extremely busy. After an hour wait we got a table and put in our orders. Food took 45-50 minutes to arrive and was cold. It must have been sitting out most of that time because it was room temperature when it got to us. (After being delivered to the table beside us briefly).
The twice baked potato with cheese is among the most boring things I have ever eaten. No flavour at all. Pulled pork was decent once they replaced the cold one.
Waitress promised the manager would come over to talk but he didn't bother. Must not have been important enough to them.
Would not go back. Would not recommend it.
Too bad, it's a great concept. I was really excited about going, but they need to work on the service and food.
Linguine with chili sauce special was non-descript and over-priced, and clearly pre-made. Onion soup was okay, but sweet potato fries were pretty dismal. The aioli dip had a skin on it. Beer was kinda warm. Friend of mine just had a horror show in there, though the owner apologized and offered to buy him a drink the next time he's in.
inconsistent food, poorly trained servers,
I have been to this Grille at least 5 times. Always an interesting menu but not really a favorite until yesterday. I had "Baked Goat Cheese Lightly Breaded and Baked Woolwich Dairy Goat Cheese with Rootham Preserves" followed by the "Blue Arugula Roasted Pear, Toasted Walnut, Blue Cheese and Roasted Pear Vinaigrette", both of which were ridiculously good. I am not a salad eater not do I like 'grass' when I do eat a salad but the salad was so good, I just had to review them.
While I like this place I have to agree with the other reviewers in that service is inconsistent, sometimes fast and sometimes really slow. We usually go at lunch so there is no reason for this. Decor on the bar side is just beautiful. I had the goat cheese appetizer and blue arugala salad for the 2nd day in a row but the salad dressing was a bit less tastier today so there is a bit more inconsistency. Tried the pulled pork and club once before and it was just ok. The sweet potato fries when crispy and cooked correctly are really good (they salt them). Hubby had prime rib on saturday at 430 and while the flavor was great the cut was not a good cut of prime rib.
Poor Service, Disorganized and slow service
Great Food and Service! It's great to see a restaurant that keeps up with the seasons and offers some great local foods. I've eaten there several times and have yet to be disappointed. Keep up the good work!
Another great experience and have never been disappointed. Food and service is outstanding especially for the price. I heard they struggled at the beginning, especially by reading the earlier reviews, but to those people I have this to say "go back or you'll miss out!".
This place has become one of Guelph's favourites.
Great to see the local support...and what a great experience we had at the restaurant. We'll be back!!
Excellent food and service. My wife and I love it here
Do appreciate the focus on 'local' food sources - but the quality of the meals for all the members of our group (5) was only fair to average. In addition the service was slow, even though it was not busy. This was our second time with similar experience, suffice to say we won't try for a third.
